The purpose of Bookmarks is to ignite the love of reading in our community. We do this through a variety of ways, but our heart is wholly in outreach. We have a variety of ongoing projects listed below. Do you want to be involved? Do you have an idea for an outreach project? Feel free to get in touch with us by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
AUTHORS IN SCHOOLS
Bookmarks is pleased to bring authors and illustrators to classrooms in local schools and community groups in the Piedmont Triad.
Book Build was a three-year, $450,000 initiative focused on infusing the k-12 Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School libraries with current, culturally-relevant books. Between 2018 and 2020, we donated 25,000 books.
LITTLE FREE LIBRARIES
Do you have a Little Free Library that needs books? Bookmarks would like to help by donating books to help stock your Library.
Bookmarks relies on volunteers for help with events, outreach, and day-to-day operations. We are incredibly grateful to all of our wonderful volunteers who believe in and support our mission.
JUMP AT THE SUN
The Jump at the Sun Book Drive is a grassroots, community collaborative initiative among Action4Equity, Bookmarks, Triad Cultural Arts, Read Write Spell, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. Winston-Salem Alumnae Chapter, and the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools.
Bookmarks wish lists are the perfect way to create online registries for weddings, baby showers, birthdays, and holidays. Community groups can also create wish lists to request books from community supporters.
BOOK FAIRS AND SCHOOL ORDERING
Bookmarks offers an independent book fair model for schools where profits remain in and strengthen the community. And, Bookmarks orders books for classrooms, libraries, and teachers at a discounted price.
