Our Year in Reading
Dear Readers,
What a year 2020 has been! On February 29, we hosted bestselling and award-winning author Erik Larson at Calvary Moravian Church with more than 400 attendees. Little did we know that that would be the largest in-person gathering of the year for us. Events have moved completely online, and we've loved seeing you virtually. But, we do miss talking to you about books. In these pages, staff members have put a lot of thought and care into their top recommendations of the year. We hope you find something that inspires you, and we hope to see you soon.
Happy Reading,
Jamie Rogers Southern, Bookmarks Interim Executive Director

Books With Purpose
Founded in 2004 as a book festival, Bookmarks has been a fixture in the literary arts community of Winston-Salem for sixteen years. Now the largest annual book festival in the Carolinas, Bookmarks brings 25,000 attendees together each September. Our extensive work with schools has reached students in both public and private schools in several counties, while our Book Build initiative has provided more than 25,000 new and culturally relevant titles to all K-12 public school libraries. Our nonprofit independent bookstore opened in July 2017, and a week later we hosted John Grisham for our first large in-store event. Since then, we have hosted hundreds of events in our space and beyond, connecting our community to books with purpose. Bookmarks is a 501(c)(3), and all profits from book sales go back to support our mission of igniting the love of reading.
