If you’ve already read the Infernal Devices series, go ahead and grab this one and dive into the Shadowhunter world in 1903, following the next generation of Shadowhunters. It’s full of intrigue, angst, beautiful relationships, and such a lush history you won’t be able to put it down.— Cat
The world of Shadowhunters is one I've been living in for a long time, I think since Middle School, so around 2009. There's this deep seated nostalgia for me with this world and these books and I imagine it's like that for many other people my age too! When The Dark Artifices series ended and I heard about this series coming, a sequel in a ways to The Infernal Devices, yes, I lost my mind a bit. Will and Tessa are the best of the best in my mind, and to get to follow their children is a dream come true. All of the couples who ended the previous series married in fact have a child, or two, in this series, and I'm ever grateful to know that they're just as great as their parents if not better. My personal favorites are Cordelia, James, and Matthew, and I'm so, so ready to see where else Cassie takes us with them. She does everything so perfectly, every classic YA trope, and she creates her own little nook that she always surprises us with. With Chain of Gold, she's created a wonderful Edwardian Shadowhunters world where we're already attached to the characters in a way, but she found a way to have us love them even more. I sighed, I swooned, I cried, and above all, I'm so, so excited for more. Bring it on Clare!— Cat
From #1 New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Cassandra Clare comes the first novel in a brand-new trilogy where evil hides in plain sight and love cuts deeper than any blade. Chain of Gold is a Shadowhunters novel.
Cordelia Carstairs is a Shadowhunter, a warrior trained since childhood to battle demons. When her father is accused of a terrible crime, she and her brother travel to London in hopes of preventing the family’s ruin. Cordelia’s mother wants to marry her off, but Cordelia is determined to be a hero rather than a bride. Soon Cordelia encounters childhood friends James and Lucie Herondale and is drawn into their world of glittering ballrooms, secret assignations, and supernatural salons, where vampires and warlocks mingle with mermaids and magicians. All the while, she must hide her secret love for James, who is sworn to marry someone else.
But Cordelia’s new life is blown apart when a shocking series of demon attacks devastate London. These monsters are nothing like those Shadowhunters have fought before—these demons walk in daylight, strike down the unwary with incurable poison, and seem impossible to kill. London is immediately quarantined. Trapped in the city, Cordelia and her friends discover that their own connection to a dark legacy has gifted them with incredible powers—and forced a brutal choice that will reveal the true cruel price of being a hero.
