1 - Fireside: An informal conversation series. Conversation between artist and attendees with a poetry performance. Featuring Emilio Rojas a queer Latinx artist whose work is centered around xenophobic immigration legislation, identity politics, border politics, botanical colonialism, and the defacement of public monuments. SECCA
3 - A Manual to Be (to Kill) or To Forgive My Own Father: In this intimate experience, participants are invited to join artist Emilio Rojas as he deconstructs his father's popular novel, Pequeno Hombre. In a gesture of rejection and creation, Rojas and participants will cut text from the pages of his father's book and use the remnants to create new poems and passages in an attempt to rewrite the narrative. SECCA
5 - Book Discussion of Dear America: Join the monthly Bookmarks book club as we discuss the book. Bookmarks
10 - A Vague and Undetermined Place (a Gloria): In this engaging experience, Emilio Rojas invites participants one-on-one to draw the US-Mexico border on transparent paper from memory, which he then layers and projects on a light box to reveal its variations in the imagination. While the border has become an increasingly urgent topic for national immigration, ecological, and human rights legislation, people can rarely recall the shape of the border -- its curves, twists, and turns. It is as Gloria E. Anzaldua theorized, a "vague and undetermined place." In exchange for their drawings, Rojas will give each participant a paleta, or a Mexican popsicle, made from fruit that crosses this border, reminding us of the immense personal, political, and economic complexities embedded within borderlands. SECCA
