Letter from the Executive Director
I love the city of Winston-Salem. Though I am not from here, I have lived here long enough that it holds the meaning of "home" for me. A lot of that is thanks to Bookmarks. When I moved here, I hardly knew anyone. I found connection and community through the Bookmarks Festival. The past decade has seen me from a volunteer to the Executive Director, and has seen the organization from an annual Festival to the creation of one of the only nonprofit independent bookstores in the country with year-round programming for all ages and robust outreach working to make our community stronger.
However you come to Bookmarks, you are a part of our story. Your support through donations, sponsorships, book or ticket purchases, or attending events is what has transformed us from a once a year festival to a resource, a refuge, and a home. We want to build a community where books provide connection and belonging for everyone. Your participation is crucial to that success.
No matter what you're looking for -- a book recommendation or a place of belonging -- let Bookmarks help you on your journey.
Happy Reading,
Jamie Rogers Southern
