Book with Purpose Community Information Session

Book with Purpose, taken from our new tagline, will focus on antiracism throughout the summer. The program will feature books for all ages and events throughout the community. To learn more about this new initiative, attend one of our four community information sessions between April 1 and May 6; email to register.

This year's Book with Purpose will use titles by Jason Reynolds and Ibram X. Kendi. Initially a National Book Award winning and New York Times bestselling book for adults, Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America by Kendi has been developed into a young adult version by award-winning and bestselling children's and YA author Jason Reynolds. Because of its immense success in 2020, there will be a children's edition published this May for ages 7-10. Kendi also published a picture book and board book edition of Antiracist Baby which explains these thoughts and history notes in a digestive form for young children and families.

We know we have a lot of work to do. Acknowledging racism in our city, country, and world is only one step. We have to acknowledge it in our hearts, families, friendships, and places of business. We know that to do that we need to listen and learn. So we are reaching out to our community friends to be involved in this summer program and help move Winston-Salem in the right direction.

We are proud to work with the following community partners who have agreed to create change in our community:
