Stars in the Waves: A Book Talk with L. M. Elliott

Author L. M. Elliott will be talking about her latest book, Louisa June and the Nazis in the Waves, a  timeless story that captures life on the U. S. homefront during World War II, weaving a rich portrait of a family reeling from loss and the chilling yet hopeful voyage of fighting for what matters. Her presentation will have a special focus on surviving grief and navigating family depression, two themes of the novel and include an interactive visual "Stars in the Waves” arts activity that discusses things that contribute to overall wellness. This event is designed for children and families ages 8+ and is free and open to the public; registration is required.

Book with Purpose and Crosby Scholars Ice Cream Social and Virtual Book Talk on (Don't) Call Me Crazy

Join Bookmarks and Crosby Scholars for an ice cream social and virtual book talk with Kelly Jensen, editor of (Don't) Call Me Crazy on Thursday, July 14 at 6:30 pm. Students and attendees will enjoy ice cream and socialize for a bit before we Zoom with Kelly Jensen, Amy Reed, Hannah Bae, and Shaun David Hutchinson at 7 pm to discuss various topics of the book that will help start the conversation on mental health. Strength of Feelings: Workshop for Kids

In this interactive online workshop Jenna Berman, therapist and author of The Self-Regulation Workbook for Kids, will guide participants through several activities designed to help children learn how we think about and normalize our thoughts.  The Self-Regulation Workbook for Kids helps children identify, understand, and take control of their feelings with kid-friendly cognitive behavioral therapy and self-regulation exercises in an easy-to-use workbook. This event is designed for children ages 8-12 and is free and open to the public; registration is required here. All participants are asked to please complete the Feelings Cup activity on page 10 of The Self-Regulation Workbook for Kids before attending the workshop. Complimentary copies of the book are available on a limited basis for request from Bookmarks

Growing Joy Workshop
Sunday, July 31 | 3-5 p.m. | Poppyseed Provisions (395 W. End Blvd, Winston-Salem)

Join Bookmarks and Patiently Rooted for a Book with Purpose workshop celebrating the power of plants and books at Poppyseed Provisions. Tickets are $50 and include a copy of the book The Plant Lover's Guide to Cultivating Happiness (and Plants) and a book talk from Bookmarks, a miniature planter and accompanying miniature succulent, and a planting workshop with Kelli from Patiently Rooted. Following the workshop, attendees will receive a Tea & Toast cocktail or mocktail of their choice and have the chance to shop for additional books from Bookmarks and plants and planters with advice from Kelli. This workshop is designed for an adult audience; please note this event will be held outdoors. Registration is limited; tickets will be on sale soon.
