Fifth Annual Student Art Contest

Thank you for participating in our Fifth Annual Student Art Contest

Bookmarks and Art for Art’s Sake (AFAS) announce the winner of the 2016 annual student art contest: Marianna Liontis, a rising senior at Reagan High School. Her bookmark was chosen from over 100 entries submitted by Forsyth County students in middle and high school. Liontis’ artwork will be printed on 5,000 bookmarks to be distributed throughout Winston-Salem and surrounding counties.

An art student for ten years now, Marianna says, “I love anything to do with art whether it’s drawing, dancing, or music. Drawing is a passion of mine, and I hope to continue it by minoring in art throughout college.”  She will be honored at the Student Artists’ Reception: Unveiling of the 2016 Bookmark to be held on Friday, September 2 from 7 – 8 p.m. at Red Dog Gallery, 606 Trade Street, Winston-Salem, NC. Liontis’ work, along with four other award-winning student entries, will be on display through September 29.

Ashlyn Comer, a Reagan High School rising 10th grader, received second place, and Deborah Nowak, a Reagan High School rising 10th grader, received third place. Honorable mentions went to Evelyn Couch, a rising 8th grader at Southeast Middle School, and Nova Cunningham, a rising 10th grader at Reagan High School.

“The number of Middle School and High School student submissions this year for the bookmarks’ art contest was well above our expectations,” said Julie Knabb, Art Director, Art For Art’s Sake.  “The body of student artwork was one of the most creative and well executed that the Art For Art’s Sake Curating Committee has received to date. We are very proud of the outstanding work provided by this group of young artists and we look forward to exhibiting the top five entries at Red Dog Gallery during the September Gallery Hop.”
